The Radicalisation Roadmap
After a decade and a half of war on terror, largely viewed as a failure, and many CVE projects of contested effectiveness, the problem is still getting worse. Despite extensive research on radicalisation in the last decade, this has not been translated to public understanding or society-wide programs. This atmosphere of poor public understanding has presented an opportunity for populists to sell fear-based solutions that are widely known among academics and experts to be counter-productive. Public discourse over radicalisation has been simplistic, swinging between nationalistic populism and cultural relativism.
Radicalisation is closely related to the values of coexistence, equality, and human rights – the principles often talked of as "liberal values". This forthcoming project aims to improve public understanding of the radicalisation process and its drivers, as only a widespread understanding can result in more holistic responses across society, and a demand for better policy.
